Exploring the Power of AI Workshop with Shelton Smith
Shelton Smith, a dedicated sickle cell warrior, recently attended the "Exploring the Power of AI" workshop. Acknowledging the ongoing challenges of his health, Shelton prioritizes careers that offer flexibility, especially those that allow him to work from home. His growing interest in AI and tech stemmed from his desire to explore new career paths. "I knew AI was gradually developing, and technology has always been evolving. Since I’m looking for a new career path, I thought it would be a valuable skill to learn," he shared.
While many fear that AI could threaten job security, Shelton found the workshop eye-opening, particularly in understanding the expanding career opportunities in AI and tech. "Learning about the projected number of jobs in AI over the next 10–20 years blew my mind! There's always talk about technology taking over, but when you see the numbers, you realize we’re already heading in that direction. It was fascinating to see all the different ways AI can be used."
AI offers limitless ways to enhance our lives, from improving workflows to expanding learning opportunities. Shelton has already started using AI to explore remote work options. "It’s been helping me figure out potential career paths and the steps I need to take." Through the workshop, he discovered NeoPrep, an AI tool that has transformed his job search approach. Shelton now combines intentional searches with the use of AI tools like ChatGPT, seeking advice on outlining career paths, certification suggestions, and refining his job search strategy.
What Shelton found especially powerful was the inclusivity of the workshop for people with sickle cell. "Seeing initiatives like this reminds us that there are people fighting for our success. Right now, many of us are just surviving, but opportunities like this give us hope for something more."
Shelton’s journey reflects the transformative power of AI and the potential for individuals to not only adapt to technology but to thrive in it, no matter the obstacles they face.
